Shukhrat Babajanov is an Uzbek/Soviet artist
painter and journalist.
Shukhrat Babadjanov was born in 1963 in Khorezm (Uzbek SSR). In
1984 he graduated from Tashkent State Institute named after Nizami, faculty of graphic arts. He
studied under masters of painting as Chingiz Akhmarov, Malik Nabiev, Yanis Salpinkidi, Isfandior
Vaidarov, Ruzi Choriev, Abdumumin Boymatov, Shavkat Abdusalamov.
After graduation he
worked as a chief curator of Urgench Art Gallery and created a collection of contemporary Soviet
paintings. In 1986, he exhibited his painting "Kissing stealthily" at an exhibition in Moscow
called "Showing the young". This painting was also shown at an exhibition of Soviet art in
Tokyo, Japan in 1987 and was awarded the gold medal of the Japanese Academy of Arts. That year
he was accepted into the Union of Artists of the USSR.
He created paintings in the genre
of fantastic oriental realism under the general name "One Thousand and One Nights".
In
1988 he was invited to the GDR by the Reclam book publishing house. The publishing house
published a book of Uzbek folk tales (Der halbe kicherling) with the illustrations made by
Shukhrat Babajanov.
The same year, he participated in the project "Unknown Uzbek
Painting" at the House of Artists in Moscow, where his naive-art paintings "Mikhail Gorbachev"
and "Raisa Gorbacheva" were shown. In 2000 he organized an exhibition in the Karakum desert in
the border region of the two countries, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. In Germany he participated
in the project of the House of Artists "Luisa" and created the installation "Samarkand".
In
2002 in the city of Weimer in Germany he took part in an exhibition of Central Asian artists
with an installation titled "The Truth of the East".
In 2004, the installation was
exhibited at Galerie Václava Špály in Prague.
On September 15, 2017, for the first time
since Shavkat Mirziyoyev became President, Shukhrat Babajanov's works were exhibited at the ZERO
LINE Gallery at the Contemporary Art Leaders Exhibition in Uzbekistan.
